Want To Feel Better, Have More Energy, Live Longer And Love It?

Alternative and standard medical approaches to wellness and fitness

People have been interested in healthy living and vitality for thousands of years. Many cultures had their own version of the ancient Olympic games, where athletes trained for competition and the doctors of their day helped them become healthier.  Likewise, people of all classes and walks of life have wanted to feel better, cure disease, and be more physically fit. Even though there is an epidemic of sedentary living in the world today, and obesity has become a national epidemic, there is also a new focus toward healthy living, whether it comes in the form of weight loss reality shows, the First Lady’s crusade against childhood weight gain, and the new popularity of organic foods.

People want to be healthier and more fit. They are investing in personal trainers, jogging, and taking up more healthy lifestyles. They are looking into foods with a low glycemic index, and working with naturopaths, chiropractors, alternative medicine specialists, and even traditional physicians to move toward a better way of living. Nutritionists are being considered more seriously than ever, and the push toward a more mindful living philosophy has taken people off the treadmill and back into the quiet serenity of their own lives.

Health and wellness centers are also making a comeback. Similar places were popular during the physical fitness “craze” of the 1970s and 1980s, but at some point they were replaced by 24 hour fitness centers and chain stores selling vitamins. Today, the individual and guided approach to wellness has become a pursuit, since you can’t get personalized health advice from a trainer who may be getting paid to push branded protein supplements. Alternative approaches to wellness, including allopathic remedies, are coming back into vogue, and wellness practitioners are getting back to curing problems instead of concentrating on prescription remedies marketed by drug companies. By concentrating on spirit, body, and mind, doctors can often reduce the need for dependence on a myriad of pills that may not even be necessary.

Notes and Special Information

Special note: When it comes to improving your health, it pays to make sure you follow a doctor's advice, since you may have to keep taking some medications until a condition no longer exists. Sometimes people can lose weight and reduce or eliminate the need for insulin in type 2 diabetes, but only a doctor can give you the go ahead to take such a radical step. Standard Disclaimer: This site is not intended as a substitute for medical advice!
